"Invented by IBM, floppy disks in 8-inch (200 mm), 5¼-inch (133⅓ mm), and the newest and most common 3½-inch (90 mm) formats enjoyed many years as a popular and ubiquitous form of data storage and exchange, from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s". Thanks Wikipedia. One of these relics from ancient times was used for years as a wedge under Steve Jobs' desk. A vibrant testimony of how people used to make screencasts before ScreenToaster public release... Enjoy :)
ScreenToaster "Featured videos" are now indexed by Google Video. The FAQ is not really clear about what is a good screencast and how to be featured. Here are 10 rules to follow (or not) to increase your chances.
1. Share your knowledge (teach us something!) 2. Talk about hot topics and trends (review a new products, services and softwares) 3. Record useful videos for the community (we'll always need a good Excel tutorial, even in two years) 4. Show a new use of ScreenToaster (be creative and you'll be rewarded) 5. Add at least subtitles. 6. Even better with audio. 7. Fantastic with a webcam. 8. Focus on the quality of your video (the cleanest it is, the best chance you have) 9. Choose your thumbnail with taste (if we click on it, be sure we'll watch it) 10. Add a good description (be findable by users and add value to your content)
That's great news. Since a couple of days, our "Featured videos" are automatically indexed on Google Video, keeping their subtitles, their audio track and their embed webcam. Now imagine a virtuous circle: identify a fast growing topic on Twitter Trends (iPhone) or Twist, a just released web 2.0 application for example, open your browser, record your screencast, add value to the video with good insights and comments, then publish it on YouTube.com & ScreenToaster.com.
